One of the most popular immigration pathways is the Express Entry system, which is designed to attract skilled workers from around the globe. Within this system, the International Experience Class (IEC) offers a unique opportunity for young people to gain valuable work experience in Canada.

The IEC 2024 season officially commenced on December 11, 2023, allowing eligible young people from abroad to add their profiles to the IEC pool.

What is the International Experience Class (IEC)?

The International Experience Class (IEC) is an integral part of Canada’s Express Entry system, aimed at providing young individuals with the opportunity to live and Canada Work Permits temporarily. This program is especially popular among youth from countries that have reciprocal agreements with Canada, allowing them to gain practical work experience while experiencing Canadian culture.

The IEC consists of three distinct categories:

  1. Working Holiday: Provides open Canada Work Permits allowing participants to work for any employer in Canada.
  2. Young Professionals: Requires a job offer in Canada, providing career-related work experience.
  3. International Co-op (Internship): Targets students from post-secondary institutions in their home country, allowing them to gain work experience related to their field of study.
Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the IEC, applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements, which vary depending on their country of origin. Generally, candidates must:

  • Be a citizen of one of the 35 countries with a youth mobility agreement with Canada.
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35 (age limit can vary by country).
  • Hold a valid passport for the duration of their stay.
  • Have sufficient funds (equivalent to CAD 2,500) to cover initial expenses.
  • Be admissible to Canada.
  • Have health insurance for the duration of their stay.
  • Not be accompanied by dependents.

Each IEC category has additional specific requirements, especially concerning job offers and student status.

The International Experience Class is a fantastic opportunity for young people to live, work, and explore Canada. It offers a unique blend of professional growth, cultural immersion, and adventure. By providing a pathway to gain valuable work experience and potentially transition to permanent residency, the IEC is an excellent option for those dreaming of a future in Canada Work Permits. If you’re eligible, consider this pathway as a stepping stone to a new chapter in one of the world’s most welcoming countries.
