In December, the IRCC held a second express entry draw, forcing it to withdraw. In the subject of Agriculture and Agri food occupations, draw 278 welcomes 400 additional candidates. This draw has the lowest CRS of all the drawings done this month, with a minimum CRS score of 386.

Significance of Category Draw

Canada’s goal is to significantly expand its economy. These category-specific Express Entry draws are held to attract qualified candidates to fill positions in accordance with the demands of the relevant industry. Their knowledge and experience will benefit the Canadian economy. On May 31, 2023, a category-based selection method was implemented with the aim of facilitating the efficient immigration of competent workers for a particular industry.

Agriculture and Agri-food Occupations Category Eligibility

In order to be qualified for the Agriculture and Agri-Food Occupations Category, you need to be able to: 

  • Meet the eligibility criteria of one of the Express Entry streams: FSWP, FSTP, or CEC.
  • Possess a minimum of six months of full-time, uninterrupted work experience in a career targeted for the Agriculture and Agri Food Occupations Category within the previous three years, either in Canada or overseas.
  • Meet all the requirements in the instructions for that round.
Six new Express Entry draw selection categories

The IRCC finalized the six new Express Entry draw selection categories on May 31, 2023. Healthcare occupations, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations, Trades occupations, Transport occupations, and Strong French language skills are among the other recently included categories in addition to agriculture and Agri food occupations.

Now, the Express Entry system is designed to offer a more streamlined and effective route for those with knowledge of vital, in-demand fields to enter Canada. Prioritizing the invitation of qualified immigrants with experience in the agricultural and agri-food industries, Canada hopes to fulfill the growing demand for talent and fill important roles that support the development and expansion of the country’s economy.
