The Government of Canada has announced that it will begin accepting new applications for two caregiver immigration programs starting January 1, 2024.

Expected Application Acceptance in 2024

In 2024, a total of 5,500 applications are expected to be accepted under the two pilot projects.

Division of Maximum Candidates

Furthermore, the maximum number of candidates for these pilot programs is now divided into two categories: those seeking experience and those seeking direct entry into permanent residence.

Statement by Immigration Minister Sean Fraser

“We are pleased to open the application process for the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilot programs to help address labor shortages in these key sectors,” said Immigration Minister Sean Fraser in a statement. “Caregivers make valuable contributions to families and communities across Canada. These pilots will help us test new pathways to permanent residency for caregivers.”

Occupations eligible for Canada Caregiver Program

You can utilize your work experience to obtain permanent residency if you have worked one of the following National Occupational Classification (NOC) jobs full-time in Canada:

Once these individuals have been in Canada for a year, they are eligible to apply for permanent residency.

  • A valid full-time job offer (IMM 5983 E)
  • English or French CLB level 5 (IELTS = Reading 4 and remaining modules 5)
