After the intense news on September 18th,2024 about the new immigration policies the IRCC conducted a draw to lighten the mood.
On September 19, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its first Canadian Experience Class (CEC)-specific Express Entry draw for the month.
The draw saw a total of 4,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) issued to candidates, marking another significant step in Canada’s efforts to attract skilled immigrants who have already gained work experience in the country.
This draw signals Canada’s ongoing commitment to meeting labour market demands and welcoming talented individuals to fill gaps in key sectors of the economy as the announcement emphasised the need to recruit people from within Canada and to fill the labour market with the people inside Canada. TThe focus on CEC candidates reflects Canada’s desire to retain workers who have already contributed to the economy and have the necessary experience to integrate smoothly into the labour market.

Overview of the CEC-Specific Draw
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC draw) are the three federal programs that oversee applications for permanent residency from skilled workers. The CEC draw is a component of the larger Express Entry system. By explicitly targeting candidates under the CEC stream in this draw, the IRCC demonstrated the government’s commitment to keeping skilled workers in Canada.
The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for this draw was 509, which is notably 2 points higher than the cut-off score in many previous all-program Express Entry draws. This increase in CRS points can be attributed to the specific targeting of CEC candidates, who typically have an advantage because they have already gained valuable Canadian work experience and possibly Canadian education.
Tips to increase your Chances under CEC Draw
You may raise your CRS score and increase your chances of winning future Express Entry drawings using a number of efficient methods. Increasing your language skills is one of the most important things you can do because it’s a highly significant aspect.
Your rating can be greatly raised by obtaining higher marks on the IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF for English or French, respectively. You can also gain important points by adding any new educational credentials, such a degree or certification, to your profile.
Increasing your work experience will help you further position yourself, especially if it’s in Canada or in a field that is in high demand. Another effective tactic is to obtain a province nomination through the province Nominee Program (PNP), which can raise your CRS score by 600 points and all but ensure an invitation to apply (ITA).
Moreover, having a valid job offer from a Canadian employer can contribute up to 200 points, depending on the position. Lastly, if your spouse or partner has strong language skills or educational achievements, including these factors in your profile can also help increase your score.
When is the next Draw?
The next express entry draw can be predicted to happen in the first week of October. There is no specific date, however, usually the draw occurs on Wednesday or Thursday.
