On July 30th 2024 IRCC announced the latest Express Entry Draw for PNP candidates
964 applicants were chosen from the Express Entry pool.
Candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 686.
This month marks the third Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw in July, following previous draws on the 2nd and 16th. So far, only five PNP-specific draws have been conducted this year.
Provincial Nominee Programs are immigration pathways managed by individual provinces and territories in Canada. Applicants who receive a nomination from a province through these programs are awarded an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points in the Express Entry pool. This substantial point boost gives them a significant advantage over other candidates in securing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

Draws Overview for the month of July 2024
The month of July has been particularly eventful for Express Entry, with eight draws already conducted. These draws have alternated between program-specific draws, such as the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and category-based selection draws.
This month, a prominent trend has been the focus on category-based draws, specifically aimed at applicants with particular competencies and credentials. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sent out 5,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to applicants who proved they could speak French in two different drawings. The significance of bilingualism in Canada’s varied and diverse society is highlighted by this focus.
On July 5, the IRCC also granted 3,750 ITAs to candidates in the healthcare industry, acknowledging the dire demand for qualified workers in this field. 1,800 ITAs were awarded in a separate draw on July 4th that focused on candidates in trade occupations. The Canadian government’s dedication to mitigating labor shortages in critical industries and luring skilled individuals who may bolster the nation’s economic and social prosperity is exemplified by these pulls.
Many ITAs were granted in program-specific drawings in July in addition to category-based draws. 2,311 PNP candidates and 6,300 Canadian Experience Class candidates were invited by the IRCC as of July 18. These draws are especially notable because many candidates for both programs are temporary residents who currently live and work in Canada, putting them in a good position to apply for permanent status.

What is Express Entry
Canada’s main method for processing skilled worker applications for permanent residency is called Express Entry. This point-based method, which was implemented in 2015, simplifies the process of choosing and inviting suitable applicants to meet national labor market demands. Many applications submitted through Express Entry are handled in six months or fewer, making it renowned for its rapid processing timeframes. Candidates with the highest scores are given priority in a transparent and merit-based selection process that is ensured by the CRS system.
As July draws to a close, the busy pace of Express Entry draws indicates the Canadian government’s proactive approach to immigration. By targeting specific skills and qualifications, and focusing on candidates already in Canada as the department introduced a new goal of reducing and stabilising the number of temporary residents in Canada while also meeting its permanent resident targets as outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan. IRCC aims to meet the country’s economic needs and strengthen its labor market through this.
